About traveling from Venice to Salzburg

How to get from Venice to Salzburg

If you’re travelling from Venice to Salzburg, you have a few travel options. For travellers on a budget, the bus is the cheapest way to travel from Venice to Salzburg, although it's certainly the slowest. There are no direct flights from Venice to Salzburg. The fastest way to travel from Venice to Salzburg is by train or car, though a car is of course the best way to travel from Venice to Salzburg since it’s so convenient. 

Venice to Salzburg by train

Trains leave from Venice Mestre or Venice Santa Lucia and arrive at Salzburg Hbf. You can buy tickets at the station, although if you wish to secure a seat it’s recommended to buy in advance online. The first train departs early morning at 9:55 AM, with the last departing around 4:07 PM. The train from Venice to Salzburg is operated by OBB Railjet with train tickets from Venice to Salzburg costing €40 on average for the 6-hour trip. There are no direct trains. All trains require at least 1 transfer. Trains have bathrooms on board and food car.

Venice to Salzburg by bus

To travel from Venice to Salzburg by bus, you’ll first need to get to Venice Central Station, Venice Marco Polo Airport, or Tronchetto bus stop. You’ll need to buy your tickets or purchase them in advance online to Salzburg Hbf. The earliest bus is at 6:20 AM, and the last bus is at 11:55 PM. Buses from Salzburg to Venice are run mostly by Flixbus, with bus tickets from Salzburg to Venice costing about €26-49 for the on average 10-hour trip making this the slowest option. The distance from Salzburg to Venice is about 447 kilometers and requires at least 1 change.
